16 Do not corrupt the balance
| 1 | Do not tamper the scales, nor falsify the weights, |
| 2 | nor diminish the fractions of the measure. |
| 3 | Do not desire a measure of the fields, and then |
| 4 | neglect those of the treasury. |
| 5 | The Ape sits by the balance, |
| 6 | his heart is in the plummet. |
| 7 | Where is there a God as great as Thoth ? |
| 8 | Who invented these things and made them ? |
| 9 | Do not make for yourself deficient weights, |
| 10 | they are rich in grief through the might of god. |
| 11 | If You see someone who cheats, |
| 12 | keep your distance from him. |
| 13 | Do not covet copper, |
| 14 | disdain beautiful linen. |
| 15 | What good is one dressed in finery, |
| 16 | if he cheats before the god ? |
| 17 | Faience disguised as gold, |
| 18 | comes morning, and it turns to lead. |
